After taking out our Top Ten, which became our shortlist for the 2010 award, we are pleased to recommend the following 40 books, which children have chosen as their favourites.

Head down to the farm in this hilarious rhyming tale by children's author Julia Donaldson. With all the mooing and hissing, quacking and neighing, and baaing and clucking the farmyard is always full of noise, but when Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len hatch a plot to steal the prize cow, it's the quietest animal of all who saves the day!

There's lots for Father Christmas to eat and drink as he makes his rounds on Christmas Eve, but with all that drinking he really needs a wee! So much so that he even forgets to leave some presents behind. Will he manage to deliver all the presents before he bursts? This fabulously funny festive counting book was a huge hit!
It's a dark and stormy night and Owl, Mouse and Rabbit are very afraid. They can hear a knock at the door. Who could it be? Could it be the Monster of the Woods? This thrilling tale is a very hairy - but not too scary - monster story with a delightful twist.
With its brilliant bold illustrations, this quirky and charming tale was very popular with our younger children who loved the story of a small girl who saved a large family of mice from her father's amazing mousetrap... and the cat!
Every child wants a dog, but what happens when they get a Snagglegrollop for a pet? This clever and bonkers picture book celebrates the amazing extent of a child's imagination and the power of play. It certainly sparked the imagination of our testers!
Jack is lost in the forest - a forest his mum has told him is full of ferocious wild beasts! The creatures Jack meets there - a bear, a lion, a crocodile, an elephant, a wolf and a python - all seem very friendly but become very worried when Jack mentions the ferocious beasts. Then they hear a terrible roar... who or what can it be? This sensational story ends with a very clever twist.
Gruff is a great big, scowly, growly, grizzly grump of a bear but one morning he meets a little rabbit who is trying to rescue fallen stars. She decides that she needs a big, kind friend like Gruff to help, but he's not keen at all. Will the determined little rabbit manage to persuade the grumpy bear to help? This heart-warming tale is accompanied by vibrant illustrations.
